Last week I wrote about data analysis for your e-commerce site and one of the questions that I got from a friend that read the article was. How do you present it without your team falling asleep?

First of all, I laughed as its quite true that data presentations can be dull and boring. Especially for people that don’t like numbers. My suggestions to him were the following: use infographics, storytelling, and ask questions.

Using infographics in data presentations

Infographics are a great way to transmit information. There are many types of infographics and if you are pitching a new project or proposal for your team or a client, having one of them is an excellent way to caught attention and gain approval.

Storytelling is a powerful tool. Using examples, jokes, or metaphors can be a powerful way to explain information and bring your audience to engage with your findings. I usually prefer to use comedy when talking about data.

Ask questions to make sure they understand

Finally, it’s important to make sure people understand what you said. Usually, people can be shy to ask questions because they are afraid of looking bad.

A great tip is to ask if you explained yourself correctly, rather than did you guys understand. This way the public is less pressure as the responsibility of not understanding goes with you as the speaker. At the end of the day, your objective is that everyone understands your data.
